ABOUT MISSION BAR‑B‑QUE

With Mission BarBQue, you'll enjoy some of the tastiest
BBQ around -- and you'll help rescue men,
women and children from the devastating effects
of homelessness, hunger, addiction and abuse.

All proceeds from Mission BarBQue support the work of Portland Rescue Mission to give hope and restore life to hurting people in need.

PEOPLE IN NEED

HOMELESS. ADDICTED. HURTING.

ADDICTION: 68% of U.S. cities report that addiction is their single largest cause of homelessness.

TRAUMA: Domestic violence, post-traumatic stress and grief from devastating life circumstances leave people feeling hopeless.

MENTAL ILLNESS: 20-25% of the homeless population suffer from chronic mental illness.

POVERTY: Job loss, underemployment and foreclosure have significantly increased homelessness in recent years.

RELATIONAL BROKENNESS: By the time hurting men and women come to Portland Rescue Mission for help, they have no supportive relationships left. Most struggle with loneliness and despair.

GIVE HOPE

MEALS. REST. SAFETY.

MEALS: Breakfast and dinner served to the public free of charge, 365 days a year at our downtown Burnside Shelter. We also serve lunch on weekends. More than 325,000 hot, nutritious meals a year.

RESTROOMS: Our Burnside Shelter is one of the only public restrooms available in the downtown area, open 24/7. Private access for both men and women gives dignity for basic needs.

MAIL SERVICE: Around 1,000 homeless men and women receive their mail at our address, helping them stay in touch with family and gain employment.

SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE: Evening chapel and Sunday church services open to the public. Attendance not required to receive meals or other services.

REFERRALS: We work closely with area agencies to get men and women medical, legal, housing and other assistance.

RESTORE LIFE

RECOVERY. TRAINING. COMMUNITY.

SHELTER: Portland's largest provider of overnight shelter for up to 142 men. Extended shelter (1-6 weeks) for 30 men and women.

SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS: Our 3-4 month Connect ministry at our Burnside Shelter helps people transition quickly to employment and housing. Capacity for up to 46 men and women.

LONG-TERM PROGRAMS: Our yearlong New Life Ministries are offered free of charge and are open to anyone committed to starting a new life. Addiction recovery, spiritual renewal and life skills training restore men and women to healthy, productive lives.
